In its advice for the Dutch government ‘Strength by the Dutch Diamond. Business in light of the new sustainable development goals’, the Dutch advisory council on international affairs weights the advantages and disadvantages of rankings.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in principle sympathetic to the use of indexes and supports its further development, such as the Access to Seeds Index that will be introduced this this year. Like the Access to Medicine Index it attempts to stimulate companies positively by means of naming and faming (instead of naming and shaming).”
