DCM Shriram is involved in various agribusiness sectors such as urea, sugar, agrochemical inputs and the fuel-retailing chain Hariyali Kisan Bazaar. Bioseed itself is engaged in the research and development of hybrid varieties of field and vegetable crops and GM cotton. It has nine breeding stations and more than 30 testing stations spread across South and Southeast Asia.

Bioseed demonstrates a strong portfolio of hybrids for various field and vegetable crops. Although the development of hybrid seeds using the latest biotechnology techniques is the company’s mandate, it is encouraged to disclose further how its portfolio meets the needs of smallholder farmers.
The company is also encouraged to disclose the full scope of its access to seeds-related activities and to clarify the level of suitability for smallholder farmers in the index region.The company could develop and disclose formal commitments or policies to guide these activities.
The company is a member of seed associations in India and Vietnam.
In collaboration with Keygene, Bioseed has a co-development research program that aims to develop improved rice hybrid varieties with tolerance to various abiotic and biotic stresses in India and Southeast Asia. While this initiative has the potential to develop the market for hybrid rice in the region, its relevance to smallholder farmers is unclear.
The company follows strict protocols as set out by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) for maintaining seed quality in its production facilities in India, the Philippines and Vietnam. Each facility is accredited with ISO 9001.
The company organizes field days for farmers to showcase its products. However, it is unclear whether such activities are directed towards smallholder farmers.
