Wim Leereveld established the Access to Medicine Foundation in 2004. In his advisory role he ensures that the Access to Seeds Index learns from the experience of the Access to Medicine Index. Prior he was co-founder of PMSI and Walsh International, leading providers of information services to the healthcare industry. It was while he was working so closely with some of the most powerful names in the healthcare industry that he had the idea of creating the Access to Medicine Index. In the knowledge that some two billion people in developing countries have no access to affordable medicines, Wim decided to develop a ranking that would clearly show what the major pharmaceutical companies were doing to make their medicine available to these people.
